Our History & Past Productions
The Cedar Springs Community Players was started in 1971 by former Cedar Springs resident, Craig
Slaight, who is now the Executive Director of the Youth Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco, CA. Craig,
a Central Michigan University college sophomore home for the summer, and a small group of theatre buffs
thought Cedar Springs needed a community theatre. With the blessing of Kent Theatre owners, John and
Charlotte Rogalewski, the group including Nora, Dick and Craig Slaight, Sue Harrison, Ardena Roberts,
Glenn Stout, LaVern Jones, Terri Riggle and others presented the first Cedar Springs Community Players
production. It was a Reader's Theatre production called "An Evening With the People of Spoon River"
on August 17 and 18, 1971 at the Kent Theatre.
Since that time, under twelve different directors, the Cedar Springs Community Players have produced
67 productions; dramas, comedies, and musicals. Our productions have been seen in many different
venues, including the Kent Theatre, Cedar Springs Hilltop School Stage, Red Hawk Elementary School
Stage, Cedar Springs High School, and Dinner Theatre at "Madame Babes" in Sand Lake.
The Cedar Springs Community Players are always looking for people who have an interest in acting,
directing, set design, properties management, set construction, costume design and construction, lighting
and sound technology, singing, choreography, publicity or makeup design. Please join us and experience the
excitement of Community Theatre.
